Interviews with Anamarija M. Perry, MD and Ivan Damjanov, MD, PhD

Background:
Marin Nola was a Professor of Pathology at the University of Zagreb Medical School; he died untimely and suddenly at the young age of 44. It is hard to describe this exceptional man in a few sentences. He was a practicing pathologist with a special interest in hematopathology, fierce educator and translational researcher. Hardworking and organized, Marin was a visionary enthusiast who knew no borders – everything and anything was possible for him! He collaborated with several colleagues from Europe and the United States in efforts to improve all aspects of Croatian pathology. He was particularly dedicated to mentoring of medical students and young pathologists who gathered around him and soaked in his wisdom, knowledge, and advice.

This award embodies, at least in part, Marin’s vision, and philosophy. He always liked to quote Oscar Wilde – “We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars.” We hope that this scholarship will help you come a little closer to your professional goals and dreams.
